Adoption Naming Ceremonies

Welcome to the family, we’re so happy you’re here…

…it’s been quite a journey

Chatter and giggles

Laughter and fun

Adoption naming ceremonies are pure joy

Whenever parenthood comes to you,

it is a miracle

You have this amazing little person in your life,

and that’s a big deal.

And a perfect way to mark such a

Life-changing occasion

is with a beautiful, bespoke naming ceremony.

A personalised naming ceremony is the most beautiful way to welcome your child, of any age, to your family.

So, what is a naming ceremony?

Well, it can be anything you want it to be.

Traditionally, naming ceremonies involve you making a promise to your child.  During these promises you can share with them the love, hopes and dreams that you have for them and the joy you feel that you are their parents. You can also include grandparents, and friends and family as ‘Guide Parents’, all of whom can make promises too.

You choose the music and readings to be shared, and you can also include other rituals such as treasure boxes, tree planting, unity candles, a fingerprint tree, or any number of beautiful rituals for adopted families specially developed by Celebrate with Sally.   These include a rose ceremony, a sand ceremony and an adapted hand fasting. If appropriate, you can also share the meaning behind your child’s name and formally bestow upon your child, their name.

The arrival of your child into your life brings so much joy and happiness, it is only natural that you should want to celebrate this.  Creating your family through adoption is complicated and has an impact on many people, not just the immediate family. If requested, space can be made within the ceremony to honour other important adults in your child’s life, such as birth family members, foster carers, social workers or maybe other family members who can’t be with you on the day.

Of course, children are the focal point of the event.  Many children are comfortable taking an active role in their naming day and, depending on age and ability, there are many ways they can participate in their special ceremony.

I am here to guide you and support you:  together, we can take your ideas and dreams to create a ceremony that is truly unique, magical, and special to you.  One that is full of warmth, love and joy.

Why are adoption naming ceremonies so close to my heart?

My husband and I have been blessed to create our family through adoption and I am thankful every day for our amazing daughter.

After our adoption had been formalised, I spent ages looking around to find the correct way to honour and celebrate this momentous life milestone for us all. But I couldn’t find anything that quite met what we needed, so I ended up writing our own ceremony.

This ceremony was incredibly special, personal and significant for us as a family, as it recognised all we had been though and celebrated all we had become. It marked the beginning of something new, a new family, a new life for us all. It was the day when we all truly realised that we were a family forever.

It was the power of this ceremony that made me decide to become a celebrant. I wanted to help other families create their own bespoke ceremonies to mark and celebrate this really important milestone in the lives of all involved.

I would truly be honoured if you chose me to be your celebrant for this special ceremony.  You can be assured that your ceremony will be written and delivered by someone who understands completely, through first-hand experience the highs, the lows, the joy and the sorrow of creating your family through adoption.

Please feel free to contact me to chat things over, I would love to hear from you.
